Torsion bar vs. spring

Many manufacturers of torque wrenches on the market use a spring in the housing to set the desired torque value. The higher the torque value, the more the spring is tensioned. This must be relieved after the end of the application (at least at the end of the day). That can already be forgotten.

The consequence: The spring is under load and loses tension. This means that the scale with the torque values is no longer correct. You think you are tightening a screw with about 100 Nm, you see the message on the display, the key releases, but at an incorrect value (due to the lack of tension in the spring). The user thinks he has carried out the screwing process correctly, but he has not. In addition, temperature fluctuations affect the permanently tensioned spring with the result that the torque wrench can no longer be adjusted under certain circumstances.

Stahlwille torque wrenches use a patented torsion bar. The measuring element is only loaded when tightened and automatically relieved after tightening. It is not necessary to reset the torque wrench after use.

Quick setting

With the help of the quick adjustment, the desired torque value can be set quickly. The setting is made differently depending on the model. With the classic Stahlwille manoscope, the adjustment is made at the end of the handle with an adjusting lever or with the "N" series with an extendable adjusting wheel. The tedious turning of the adjusting wheel as with conventional torque wrenches is no longer necessary.

Independent tolerance correction

If you notice that the torque wrench has deviations in the torque values and these are outside the tolerance limits (+/- deviation), you can make small corrections to adjust the deviation yourself. All you have to do is turn two adjusting screws to the left or right with an Allen key. This means that you can make adjustments yourself without dismantling the key. As soon as the torque wrench is back within the tolerance after testing, work can be continued promptly and without any problems.
